So for 16 years people asked for it. Then someone took it up and half a year later it’s in. That’s how Free Software works: someone must want the change enough to actually put in the work. Sometimes the maintainer will donate that work.

But when I have my maintainer hat on, I nowadays clearly say that I don’t do everything. „Just do it, here’s a pointer to where you could start. Or find someone who will“. It’s the only way I know to stay sane and maintain FLOSS on the long run.

Also 15 years are awfully short if you have a full-time job and a family: after the birth of the second child the years fly by and suddenly you realize that you’re 42. „Wasn’t there this feature someone asked for recently? Oh, that was a decade ago?“

Addition by Lubieerror: To the first part, while I agree with the part that maintainer don't have to do everything … communication is a key. It's a UX decision, so the maintainer should have the last word if they want a feature in their project. The most devastating thing to hear as a contributor is to hear after spending some time on it "I don't we don't need it" and "won't merge".

I fully agree with that. „we won’t do it, if you want it, you have to fork“ is important to say, too. And early on.

The feature request was for moving files without the context menu.

But even though I have not been using dolphin for years, it still always feels iffy to me when I don’t get that menu. Because I don’t know whether my file will get moved or copied without pressing more buttons.

And in some cases, moving something can be destructive. For example moving something into a folder used as transcoding inbox. Also since my files are spread over several disks, the "I magically do what you want" behavior is pretty broken for me.

Die Abwertung der vorgenannten Personengruppen zeigt sich auch in der pauschalisierenden Verwendung von Begriffen wie „Messermigranten“

Solche Begriffe sollten — da sie faktisch falsch sind (mehr dazu) — insgesamt wieder aus der Alltagssprache verschwinden.
