For every user who writes a bug report, many more got impacted by the bug and didn’t act, either because of no time or because of “someone else will fix it”.

In a free software project I maintain we lost over 60% of the users because we had a problem with Windows threading that caused a slowdown of the computer (who would have imagined that putting the threads to “background” would not reduce the system load but actually put the CPU into perpetual 100% load after a few hours of runtime?). Fixed a month after it got reported (none of the core devs use Windows …) but the users never came back.

IIRC about 3 people reported it. The other 7000 who stopped just dropped out silently.

So be thankful of every user who reports a bug. They are the ones who have your back.

I am also not be perfect in that. It’s always hard to re-prioritize my free time when a bug comes in, because it means I can’t work on the thing I actually want to improve. But I’m working on it …

So einfach ist die Psyche leider nicht.

Und Leuten, die 70 Stunden arbeiten (viele Selbstständige, Youtuber, …) fällt es oft sehr schwer, das zu verstehen: ein blinder Fleck, weil wer etwas erlebt hat, das dieses Verständnis bringt, den Job zumindest in der Zeit nicht machen konnte und dadurch oft ganz raus ist.

Lass dir nie von Leuten vorschreiben, wie viel du zu leisten hast, die noch keinen Burnout hatten.

Disziplin ist nicht nur eine Frage des Wollens, und etwas zu wollen ist ein Wert, den Viele erst erkennen, wenn er ihnen abhanden kommt.

Ein Freund von mir hatte Burnout. Er hat mir letztens gesagt, dass er kurz nach dem Burnout nicht glaubte, je wieder arbeiten zu können. Durch Unterstützung des Arbeitgebers und der Familie arbeitet er inzwischen wieder 32 Stunden die Woche. Sogar im gleichen Job. Es hat aber mehrere Jahre gedauert, wieder auf den Damm zu kommen.

Und dass da der Arbeitgeber helfen muss, damit das klappen kann, ist ein Unding. Ich glaube es liegt mit daran, dass Verständnis fehlt.

Ein Arzt sagte z.B. vor einem halben Jahr aus dem nichts zu mir, er glaube nicht an Burnout …

Und nein: Abnehmspritzen sind dafür keine Lösung.

If EU actually gets this right, I could allow my kids more games.

Currently -- with very few exceptions -- “has ingame transactions” is a hard no-go, so they miss out on a lot of games they would like to play.

Also it could free game developers from having to waste their creative energy on treacherous features that they know hurt users, possibly saving a ton of game devs from the burnout they risk whenever they can no longer blind out that their work is a net negative to almost all involved.

And it could make games safe again for people who suffer from gambling addiction.

So I welcome the EU taking up the task of fixing that.

And damn: I missed the call for public consultation (closed Oct 24th).

Faktencheck … von Kontraste und Die Zeit zeigt: Viele seiner Aussagen sind so nicht haltbar.

Korrekturen von Aussagen im Ostermann-Buch:

• Jugendkriminalität lag früher deutlich höher
• Mord und Totschlag bleiben auf niedrigem Niveau
• Deutsche haben weniger Angst vor Straftaten als früher
• Zum Hambacher Forst gibt es keine Belege für von ihm genannte Vorfälle, auch nicht auf Nachfrage bei Polizeidirektion und Innenministerium
• Es stellt irreführende Behauptung über Handreichung der Bundespolizei auf

Bei dem stellvertretenden Vorsitzenden der DPolG ist das befremdlich.
